Synchro at the University of Hawaii, Manoa

In November 2005 Hawaii Synchro Club (HSC) at the University of Hawaii, Manoa was approved as a Registered Independent Organization (RIO), creating the first collegiate club team in the State. Synchronized swimming is considered to be a new and emerging sport, therefore our club status allows us to compete with other collegiate synchronized swimming teams throughout the nation while we pursue varsity status. To participate, athletes must be enrolled at the University of Hawaii’s Manoa Campus.

Over the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend we hosted our first official collegiate competition against Stanford University Synchronized Swimming Team at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. Stanford swept the solo, duet, trio and team events, exhibiting their technical strength and artistic passion. The competition was a success, inspiring HSC’s athletes to strive for similar excellence and grace. We look forward to having Stanford out again next year!

Furthermore, the Hawaii Synchro Club has been asked to compete in the Oceania Games Competition in Brisbane, Australia (tentatively) July 13-17, 2006. The unique geographic location designates Hawaii as the only U.S. team eligible to compete in the international competition. It is an exciting opportunity and will challenge our small team to raise the funds necessary to travel to the Games.
